Description

Styrene is polymerized from ethyl benzene and produces a form of transparent polystyrene called Crystal Polystyrene. By adding polybutadiene rubber during the reaction process, a translucent, impact resistant material is formed, called High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS).

The further addition of additives gives Flame Retardant High Impact Polystyrene (FR-HIPS).

Characteristics

HIPS materials are characterized by their improved physical properties over Crystal Polystyrene, such as increased elongation, ductility and resistance to environmental stress cracking.

The ease of processing of HIPS allows for the production of large mouldings with good surface appearance. Flame retardant HIPS can meet the flammability safety standards required by many test houses and government legislation.

Applications

Housings that require flame retardancy, such as, TV, VTR, monitors and computers.

Electrical and electronic parts requiring flame retardancy.

Parts for vacuum cleaners, washing machines and air conditioners.

Extruded sheet for a wide variety of application including the requirement for flame retardancy.

Grades Available

  • High Heat, Flame Retardant
  • UV Stable, Flame Retardant
  • High Impact Flame Retardant
